Tschikko, an Irish Terrier and Shar Pei mix, was discovered by Julia Marie Werner during a photoshoot in the Spanish countryside in 2014.
After Werner saved the six-month-old pup's life, the pair became inseparable and she took him back to Germany with her. Just months later he became the inspiration and focus for digital project 'Grossstadtlowe' - which means 'Big City Lion'.

As she set up her equipment for the shoot she was startled by a 'little and very thin' dog who was rummaging through the bins and stealing food from the table of the set.
Werner claims it was when a Spanish man attempted to chase the hungry pooch away with a stick that she stopped him and said that 'I am taking him with me.'

Since his adoption Tschikko, whose full name is Tschikko Leopold Von Werner, has visited France, Switzerland and Denmark to pose for photographs in urban estates, fairgrounds and even on public transport.
In the photos, the adorable pooch models a lion mane created by Werner's friend, as his owner claims her first though upon seeing him, was that he resembled Simba from The Lion King.
Speaking to MailOnline Travel, Werner said: 'My first thought was, "oh he is so cute" and then a Spanish guy tried to chase him with a stick.
‘When we first met he was chasing butterflies and crickets. That reminded me a lot of Simba from the Disney Movie The Lion King when he was still small and lost in nature.

'I was still working for a few weeks in Spain when I first met him, so I met up with a woman from an animal rescue organisation who gave him all the injections he needed and a passport to leave Spain.'
After his injections, Tschikko was made comfortable alongside all of Werner's belongings and the duo set off on a three-day-long car trip across Europe.
Werner added: 'We have already travelled together to Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark. I am always taking him with me on photo shoots if I don't have to fly.'

While manning the counter of the shooting gallery at the Dom folk festival in Hamburg, Tschikko surveys the crowds of people
'At the beginning Tschikko was very insecure. Sometimes he still is with other dogs - but at the same time he is very curious and loves to discover life.
'He trusts me completely and he connects easily with other people and they love him immediately.
'Back in Hamburg I realised he was very good at posing for the camera and loves doing tricks and to jump on things. So the idea to create Grossstadtlowe started.
'With a friend of mine we sewed some fabrics into a mane and immediately he didn't have any problems with wearing it.
'He is one of a kind.'
